On January 30, 2008 M.I.D.L. was a major sponsor for the 2008 Charity Super Bowl Celebrity Golf Tournament.  A host of national celebrities from the sports and entertainment industry came to Phoenix Arizona not only for the glamor and excitement of the 2008 Super Bowl, but also to support the needs of children who have ambitions in entertainment and other forms of art.  They came to support the social, financial and literacy needs of children. The Generation Color Foundation hosted the 2008 Charity Super Bowl Celebrity Golf Tournament.

The 2008 Charity Super Bowl Celebrity Golf Tournament was held at The Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort, in Phoenix, Arizona.  The Pointe Hilton has a Golf Digest’s pronoun public course, which has held tournaments such as the Harmon Killebrew Invitational, the Royce Clayton Charity Classic, and the Phoenix Suns Scramble.

The two-day event included a kick-off evening of cocktails for the golf tournament and the Super Bowl weekend on January 30, 2008, which was followed by the Celebrity Golf Tournament on January 31, 2008.  The Goal of the event was to raise money and awareness for children who are socially, financial and literacy challenged in their attempts to achieve a quality education.

The event was to be hosted by Santana Dotson from the Green Bay Packers, also head of the Santana Dotson Foundation, which assists in financing the education of the economically disadvantaged students within Houston’s inner city neighborhoods.  Other celebrity guests included former NFL players Marcus Spears of the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans, Ira Matthews III former Oakland Raider, and former MLB Player Allen Angel.  Other invited guests included Commentator Mark Jackson, former Los Angeles Laker Nick Van Exel, former Boston Celtic Vernon Maxwell, Baltimore Ravens Ray Buchanan and many more.                                                                                                                                   image002

Generation Color Foundation President Tiffany Williams states” that there are thousands of children in our country, that are gifted with formal and informal talents of music, performing arts and other forms of entertainment oriented skills. Because of existing barriers in their families, cultures and social–econo mic dispositions, they are unable to have those skills and talents nurtured in a way that helps them become successful leaders in our communities.

Our goal is to help children, families and Communities bridge and eliminate those existing gaps that are impeders to our children in their pursuit of obtaining the nurturing needed to become viable citizens. Generation Color helps those children to identify their natural talents and cultivate them into the global industry. As we continue to compete globally in the economic market, we must prepare all children with a variety of opportunities that will help them to reach their dreams.

Many times people think individuals in the athletic and entertainment industry are more preoccupied with their careers than they are with the plight of children and that is not the case.  We had great response and support from athletes and entertainers across the country for this event.

Even though Ms. Williams states the responses for the 2008 Super Bowl Celebrity Golf Tournament was positive, she hopes that more celebrities will want to show their support as the Foundation will create many opportunities in the coming years for them to do so.
